A Thousand Clowns is a funny, sometimes bittersweet, and often thought-provoking work about non-conformity, the pressure to conform, and the price that others pay for one's non-conformity. Written before the 60's culturally became "THE 60's", A Thousand Clowns anticipates the essential struggle of the coming decade - to become and remain one's own person - depicting the struggle from several perspectives, and doing justice to all of them. Characters that would be written off as one-dimensional villains in lesser works are given their say and their dignity here; every character clearly has a life, each complete with its own sorrows, joys, and viewpoint.

Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
